Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

If the China Lava world lamps need a theme song, I propose 'Foggy Notion" by the Velvet Underground, just because of the title and the fact that I am now surrounded by 3 fog laden lamps: 2 Grandes and a 52 oz globe pulled out of a 2007 lantern.

Two questions: exactly HOW do you get the cap off the China Grandes, and how do you filter that much liquid, and how much will I lose after filtering?

I would love to hear/see detailed success stories regarding filtering China lamps, especially the Grandes.

Ask Kris, he's getting to be the filter king, unfortunately. I haven't attempted to filter, but I can help with the cap removal. A VERY small knife/screwdriver & patience & the cap can be pried away from the glass. Mark your cap & glass first, since the caps seem to have a unique fit to each one.
I'll probably only do one at a time...I also know that a goo kit is an option, but I like the colors on both of these Grandes I just HATE the fog!
