I've been reading posts and they have been great. I really think I can help my Lava Lite return to its original state EXCEPT how do you get the plastic cover off to get to the bottle cap? It doesn't just screw off and there is no gap to speak of to put in a knife blade to pry it off. HELP. Thanks

What lamp is it - a grande or one with a bottle cap seal
I don't know the name of it. It has a starlight base which is 6.5 inches tall with a 11.25 jar for a total of 17 inches. It looks like the middle one in the below picture. If you look up through the class I don't see a bottle cap. Hope this helps.
I think its a screw cap - could you post a picture of the cap your trying to get off
I get it now, I though the cap was loose and it was the sealed cap you couldent remove
One methord I have used to remove caps is to pour boiling water over it to melt the glue then its easy to just unscrew
Thanks, I'll give that a try and let you know. I'm guessing the cap is strong enough plastic to not melt????
This is a screw cap. To my knowledge no glue is used on these. They are sealed with an O-ring in the lid. They can be very difficult to remove but they do come off. One problem is that the cap can also break if you use too much force (the screw cap is plastic, don't use a metal pipe-wrench!)
Good luck!
