Hey all,
I really need some input here with my Giant I can't seem to figure this one out. Ok so this Giant of mine is driving me nuts it's in pristine condition and I want it to flow like it is but no dice! The flow seems to start out fine but then after about an hour or so it does this (see attachment). Overheating? not so sure but possibly. I have tried everything dimmer, different bases, bulbs, I even made a custom heat ring for it out of a 32oz base. So the only thing left to do I think is to try a different coil but I do not wanna open this lamp up if I don't have to. But if I do have to resort to this to get it to flow I will. This is SUCH a beautiful lamp and if it would flow properly it would be absolutely stunning! Oh by the way the heat ring is out of it now and the wax does not come of the coil at all.

Interesting. So the wax is attached to the coil properly? I would say it was a heat issue, not hot enough to rip up, but seems like you have tested that theory. I am kinda at a loss outside of poor master fluid density?
No I really don't think that it's not enough heat it flows the same in the summer as well. I did try the towel but no dice but thanks for the info.
I do want to add when the lamp first starts to flow the wax does column the whole way to the top and back down. It does this several times but then blobs. So it seems like the lamp is trying to cycle at first. I do know this the guy I bought it from 5 or 6 years ago said he did not turn on the lamp on much and he did buy it new and I have not used the lamp much either. BUT I would think by now that it should be broken in. I say this because I was told by others that it may need broken in. I would say that the lamp is anywhere from '99-'02. There is no date on the bottom of the base.
have you tried twisting the globe back and and forth on a flat surface? heat the globe until the wax is liquid, then take the globe off the base and put it on a flat surface and twist the top back and forth 10 times or so. if it flows for a while then hovers in the middle, then it's likely getting too hot. i don't suspect an issue with the density of the fluid, else it wouldn't flow at all.
I would suggest a bulb extender. It'll set the bulb closer to the bottom of the globe giving it more heat and maybe that will fix your flow issue.

It'll fit fine :)
