I'm picking up a couple of lamps this weekend and I'm wondering if there would be any problem putting them in an ice-filled cooler during the day. I don't want them heating up in the hot car, so is there any danger putting them on ice?

As long as they weren't hot or warm right before you put them in, I think you should be OK.
That being said, if you have AC in your car, you should be fine. As long as the wax is solid and there's not much bumping around, you should be OK. What lamps are you picking up?
Just some Midnights. The car might be sitting in the hot sun for a while (w/o AC), so I'm a little worried.
I have had wax melt in globes left in a hot car, especially in the trunk. I don't think you would need to FILL a cooler with ice, but a little would be OK. That would keep them cool enough. I wouldn't want cold lamps when I got home, I would want to run them right away ;)
