I saw the cheetah lamp on Ebay as well. I think the globe is correct, it looks as though the liquid is just a little cloudy w/orange lava.
True about jackin up the prices. I'm all about the "Buy It Now" w/free S/H.
Just remember - the lamp you see today will likely be available again in the future. I don't play the bidding game as that's what it is. I think some on eBay are more geeked up over "winning" than actually acquiring what they desire.
I don't bid until the last 5 seconds and I bid the max amount I am willing to spend. If I lose, no problem, too rich for my blood anyways. I tend to win though <jersey pop>.

Yeah that's the one I saw. The tortoise had the orange liquid and white lava. Cheetah clear with orange, Zebra was clear with pink lava. May be correct but not one of the first ones. Plus it's a bid and I'm not one for going back and forth for 6 to 8 days bidding, just give me a fair price and quit jacking up the price! Some go for way more than what they're worth.
I can vouch for Vince, too. Paid super fast, nice guy to deal with. :)

To be completely honest, your Toady was an absolute steal. That particular lamp, mint in box is easily $150 - $175 (maybe even $200). Hate to say it, but the truly best barometer of market value is eBay. If someone is willing to pay $175 for Toady, that means its a $175 lamp. Of course in two months it could be a $115 lamp - the market is volatile.
Take a look through the one thread on unusual rarities that have been on eBay. A Fantasia Cosmic Window went for over $1000. A triple globe Florence Arts glitter went for $750. Wave Machines - ridiculous prices, insane (I got mine NIB for $20 and $75, so I'm with ya Vince, just sayin).
You just have to be aware of what the recent sales have been like. When I wanted Spooktacular I knew to bid large in those last 5 seconds (I had lost previously bidding $225), so I went to like $240. Luckily the market had tempered (cough, Chow, cough), so I landed it for a little over $100.

Like the icon lamps, I bought a couple of mine off Craigslist I paid $35.00 for the Toady that was in mint condition and with the box. What's up with these people on eBay selling for $150.00 to $175.00? You'd think that they had the only one in the world. I know what most lamps are worth. Really makes it hard on people who really enjoy their lava lamps.
I price mine according to what I invest into it, unless it was one of those stupid I don't care bids.
Any Safari or Swirl (in box) with a good american made globe for under $50 is steal.
Also the person you are buying from should give you a level of confidence to make the investment.
Just found thie auction with an available green swirl http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LAVA-LAMP-PSYCHEDELIC-SWIRLS-CHOOSE...
does thatone have it's origional bottle, I just was looking at it an the globe looks like a blue/yellow over a green/white or obviously clear/green.
