Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have an old lava lamp with faded water and wax, I am planning on using the how-to on this site to replace it but I want to keep the glass and lamp. How do I dispose of the liquid & wax, is it toxic or unsafe? Thanks, this site is awesome!

If it is made before 1995 its probably very toxic. I would keep the stuff in case you ever buy a lamp that needs a little fluid. I had a really bad condition blue/green that faded to yellow/puke green and I filtered the liquid mostly clear and I used it to fill up 4 lamps that were missing about an inch of liquid. But if you are determined to toss it just dig a hole in your yard where no animals can get to it and dump it.
You can just smell how "toxic" it is, if it is an old one.

If you are in the USA, many communities have one day a month that they accept toxic household waste - paint, gas, mercury, solvents.

But I would just keep it in a sealed jar - you never know when you or someone you know might need some of it.
