Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Pictured below are 2 Consort caps. The one on the left has been well cared for over the years. The one on the right has not been as fortunate. Is there any way to repaint the cap and make it have the polished gold appearance like the other cap? If not, do I just need to gently sand the cap and spray paint it matte gold? (I can live with this, but I would like to make it as close to the original caps as possible.) This is for a Capri that I am in the process of restoring. The lava is fried, so it looks like I may have to do a transplant from some spare globes I have. Any ideas what colors the lava and fluid came in on a gold Capri? Any Ideas what years the Capri was manufactured?
