I'm new and don't know where to post this/I don't want to burn my house down.

Hello from Pittsburgh.

So, for the past couple of weeks I've been looking for another lava lamp. I currently have a pink and purple (pink wax, purple liquid) Lava Lite. While it is very attractive, I've been looking for something a little more vibrant. Both of the colors kind of tone each other out.

While thoroughly combing through the internet desperate for a nice bright, solid purple (think bright purple liquid with white wax so it has the "electric jellyfish" look, I found exactly what I was looking for! ...Unfortunately, it's a Mathmos.

I found a lot of pictures that actually linked to Oozing Goo and that's how I found this site. It seems as though the most vibrant ones were somehow linked to here from Google and it these are mostly homemade.

I'd like to build my own lava lamp, but at the same time, I'm very scared. I've read the instructions on how to build a lava lamp but I'm not confident I can do it without messing up. If anyone would like to share their inspirational stories or kinda mentor me through the process it'd be muchly appreciated.

Goo Kits are very easy to use and quite fun as well. As long as you use common sense, it should be perfectly safe.

Main thing w/ the goo kits to watch for if not redoing a lamp is coming up with a suitable globe that won't crack or explode from the heat.

As far as doing the goo kit itself I was worried but once I got past opening up that 1st lamp now its fun to do. I've since done 2 more, a 2nd 52oz and a 32oz. I'm in PA also, about an hour and a half north.

Jim - I did review the Goo Kit thread, thanks! There are a lot of steps, but they sound simple enough and pretty easy for first-timers or would-be first-timers to comprehend.

Hi, Jeff! Do you use any methods to sort of test your globes before using them as a precaution?

You would definitely be safe with these bottles as long as you leave the air gap at the top before you seal it. If you want something more custom though, I know others have used various containers. Some have cracked, some haven't. Hope this helps
