Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I want to revamp (2) 32oz globes, and I need a capper!! I really dont want a benchcapper since I dont do home brews.. The hammer cappers on ebay UK only ship to UK.. The black beauty and red baron hand cappers are available here in the U.S.,but I was told they wont work on 32 oz globes! Also Im not sure about the hoseclamp method.... Can anybody help me locate something that might work?

These cappers can be found on eBay pretty easily:

Need a capper for the 250oz lava grande.  Any ideas?

I think most people have recapped these by hand using a butter knife or something metal and flat.

Thank you Erin. All due respect, but I need info a little more detailed.  I've looked at these "cappers" people were talking about on eBay.  This is something completely foreign to me and need the experience of people who have actually recapped a lava grande.  This is an excellent source of information for dealing with cloudy ...  Soooo.....any ideas?  Anyone?  HELP! MAYDAY-MAYDAY!

I've employed 2 things to great success, no leaks detected. Hose clamp-works great: position cap, position clamp, tighten screw until no leaks. Crazy simple, and works. The other is rubber stopper and marine epoxy. The key to lasting success with any adhesion: clean all contact surfaces well with rubbing alcohol first. Let dry. Apply epoxy to inside of bottle rim, and to stopper. Jam it in, wipe excess and U R done...

Erin is pretty experienced and what she says is absolutely true, there isn't a tool to recap grandes other then your hands and something flat like a knife or screw driver. If you use the search feature, on the board here, and type grande cap you'll see years worth of discussions about the subject. Have at it!

Recapping bottles with the standard bottle caps is pretty common and cappers can be found everywhere like eBay and also websites that sell beer brewing supplies. There are a few different options that work. Erin's method with the hose clamp works. There's bench cappers, which can be found all over the internet, like HERE, and the method I use is the hammer capper like THIS. You dont see too many of these around but they are cheap and work just as well as the bench capper but just 1/4 the size and price. I use a rubber mallet and its works like a charm every time.

Check out Rick's album: http://oozinggoo.ning.com/photo/albums/my-gookit-project <-- that's as detailed as you're going to get.

This is the best way I've seen to re-cap a Grande. I never did recap mine. Just put the stopper back in and the metal cap back on top. I destroyed the metal part over the rubber piece when removing, so I didn't bother putting it back on.

OK, that sounds good.  But, what material do I use for a cap???  I would imagine variables such as thickness of material and reaction to heat/pressure are also a consideration.

Funny you should mention a rubber stopper.  These lava grandes I have, already have a huge rubber stopper UNDER the cap.
