Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I have a 1975 enchantress. Beautiful lamp and lava flow. BUT! The lava is full of air bubbles, like sort of a foam, that swirls inside of the blobs of lava. Is thios normal? Looks almost like brown vomit. Weirdness!!!

It must be original wax? Sounds like it might just be old. I have this problem and I use dimmers on all my vintage lamps. It really works nicely. If that doesn't work you might have to take out the water (save it so you can put it back in) and run the lamp for a little bit, sometimes they are water bubbles and this purges the wax of the liquid. Don't run it too long with no liquid cause it can heat up your wax too much and further damage it.
I would try the dimmer first. It's worked on all of my 60's and 70's lamps.

I came on to research this same problem.  It's with a lava brand lamp that's only a few years old, though!  And it hasn't been used much.  In fact, I've run it about 6 times, and the wax was nice and solid - made "new" style balls (not old-style globs), which I'm partial to, since I already have a vintage lamp.

I haven't let it get overheated that I know of, but the wax is doing the same thing; it looks like purple vomit.  It's pretty gross right now, and I'm not going to open it.  Don't have the money for a dimmer ATM, either, unless someone can link me to one that's less than $5 total on ebay.

I think I'll try to run it cooler in front of a fan and see if the wax clears any.  I'll let you guys know how it goes for prosperity!
