I cannot tell you how many times me and my brother did that as a child.  It must work as I never once burned my feet!

Our couches were quite a distance apart so we laid the cushions and pillows out on the floor as lava-safe stepping stones spaced good distances apart to keep up the challenge.

Okay, on a related topic, did anyone out there ever NOT make a fort out of couch cushions?
