Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Is it possible to salvage a globe with a cracked cap?

A few years back I purchased a Century on eBay and the cap was cracked in shipping.  All of the original fluid leaked out but the original wax remained in a solid lump.

I replaced the cap and refilled the globe with a salt and distilled water mix.  It never really flowed well.

My question is:  Is it possible to salvage the original wax and just use a new liquid?  Or do I have to completely empty the globe and get a Goo Kit?

Thanks.
