Just A Thought About Metallic Lava

Hey, guys! Haven't been on in a while. I was inspired the other day by an alcoholic product (Viniq) to start making fun lamps again.  This beverage is a pale purple color with silver luster dust swirling around inside it.  It's reminiscent of the DIY lamps made with pearlized hand soap, only the effect is more pronounced.  My stepdaughter thought it was cool and wanted her grape Kool-Aid to do the same thing.  So I whipped out my Shimmer Dust (Wilton product) and poured a bit in.  Sure enough, same effect!

Then I got to thinking.....would this be an effective additive to make metallic goo?  I don't have any empty lamps at the moment, so I thought I'd throw the idea out to y'all, see if anyone was interested in experimenting.

Hi. Isn't Shimmer Dust edible and sugar based? If so wouldn't it just melt away after a short time? Interesting idea for sure if it is long lasting.

I haven't tried that, but I have tried mica powder, which is basically what they make eye shadow out of. That stuff sinks to the bottom and clogs up the coil. Even using pigment-based inks like metallic sharpie ink will result in pigment collecting on the bottom, so only dye-based (and oil-based) inks seem to work. :( There are things like metallic calligraphy ink, but I think it's only for dip pens, not fountain pens, which means it's probably pigment-based.

This thread has been around before about using the shimmer powder.  I even came up with the idea, but one of the members on here tried it in one of her goo kits and she said that it just sunk to the bottom.  Vox also did a little something with a metallic power of some sort, not to make metallic goo, but to put a shimmer into his fluid and I don't think it really worked the way he thought it would.  Vox could tell you more about his experiment...Vox?.
