Lamp Insulation

this can apply to almost any lamp

I've found I have especially needed to do this to any of lamp I have had copper or Chrome Plated due toi heat dissipation of the plating.

My colossus was not flowing anymore so I decided to change the master fluid and do a few checkups.

While it was apart, and since the surface gets VERY hot to the touch, I decided to insulate the inside.

Time will tell how this holds up to the heat or if it actually helps the flow, but its worth a try and will stop little ones from burning their hands/paws.

I've had to do a similar insulation job to a copper plated grande for the same reasons.

You will notice a blue coating on the bottom.
This is painted on by the plating company so the acid would not eat the metal with it was dipped into it to be etched for chroming. Please disreguard\

Step One

Cutting the material 

I cut notched into the material so it would stretch/form and come close to the neck, then used a sharp knife to trim to fit. Nothing needs to be to perfection at this stage

Finished product trimmed with scissors afterward.

I cut @ 3/8 of an inch undersized since it was templated from the outside

Finished product installed without glue and just one piece of duct tape on top section.

I may remove the tape and put a spot of glue under the overlap so safety sake

Scrapping the current insulation and saving it for a pattern.

When the correct metal foiled ceramic insulation arrives that I ordered, I will reinstall  the correct hi-temp insulation

the type I used starts to smell like burnt plastic after a while
