Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello goo heads:

Well after cracking the first thick base (wrong bulb that was too close to the head base) on my glass head, I installed a different (thinner) base against my better judgement due to the fact that Pier One does not carry the thick candle base I had used before.

I changed to a 75W regular house bulb (on a dimmer) but I could not get the lava to flow.  The bulb is now 2 inches from the bottom of the glass head as opposed to almost touching the base as it had done previously.

I also discovered that I now have another small leak.

Bohden, I need a different base.  What do you currently use and where do you buy them?

What other bulb configuration can I use?  I did not want to crack this new (thinner) base with excessive heat.  I put the reflective bulb back in my Giant lamp.

I'm getting a bit fustrated right about now, so please, be kind.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this the base that you use? How do you hide the tabs on the Pyrex? I too am thinking of making one.

The base under the hand is what I used before I cracked it. It was from Peir One and is called the Wave. Pier One does not sell them any loner (I should have bought two).

I have a larger Wave that will need to have the lip ground down as so the head would fit inside of it.

How would one grind down a glass rim?

Thanks
The black head is solid black and no light gets though. I found a base at goodwill. It fits the head and base perfect. It even looks like the one you have. Were yours made in Portugal? That’s where mine is made, no China made glass here.
