I have no idea where to put this but am desperate for anyhelp and hope somebody here has some ideas.
The short version is that my lavalamp doesn’t work - it hasa blob at the bottom and a floating blob at the top. The options ive come upwith are:
replace globe?
fix some how?
exchange innards - either liquid or wax.
Ive tried messing about, leaving it on for hours, coveringit with a tea towel to see if it needed more heat, new bulb (this one seems tomake it hot very quickly).
at one point i evenput it in my easy yo yoghurt maker over night (its basically a large thermalmug which keeps the heat of the hot water in).
Due to this being my perfect lava lamp (taking years tofind) and my terminally ill Grams buying it i do not want to throw it away andbuy another). actually i had considered jut buying the same one again howeverthe shop has closed down (it was a one off) but i also cant find mention of itafter extensive Google searches of variations of dragon lava lamp.
its not cloudy which really confuses me due to everythingive read online seems to identify bottom melting and top floating (not reallymelting) as going hand in hand with that.
first off how do i identify which globe it is so that i cantry again to search for globes / other lamps i can nick the globe from.
i love the colours its blue water with blue/ purple ish(depending on the light and how thin each glob is) id say more blue/navy with ahint of purple in colour.
if anyone has any ideas id be eternally grateful if i canfix this.

oh wait ive only just noticed the top floating blob now looks like a round blob and has sank to the bottom - hmm thats new!
It looks like its a china made cheap 'peace lamp' globe these lamps are very easy to get hold of - a quick Eaby search for peace lamp and you will find one.
You will only need the globe, from what your describing I think the wax is dead and also from the pictures it looks like its not in grate condition anyway so i think the best option is to replace the globe.
Also I have to say that the base and cap is really nice, havent seen one like this before so with a new globe it will be perfict.
awesome thanks for the information! am excited that i could fix this! even more so now given its meaning.
ive been trying on and off for over a year.
Tim GIll - the peace lamp globe style appears to curve and then (at times) slope inwards towards the bottom something like this:

when i first looked at replacing the globe i dismissed these due to my shape being more like this:

excuse the attempt at ascii art!
and as such i assumed it wouldnt fit considering the base and top etc. any ideas?
am i still looking for the pease lamp style globe?
i have been looking for the perfect lamp for years and when this came along i was so excited - it was costly then and my Grams kindly said for an extra special xmas gift! because its so nice and awesome (bias i know!) but also given its sentimental value, im touched someone on here thinks its nice! i personally have never seen another.
Autumn - i would love to give those instrustions a go - its worth it, but i am sorta concerned that if it goes wrong etc. in its curent condition its sorta at least an ornament - do you have any experience with this and how likely is it to go wrong?
i would be over the moon if i could get a replacement globe (matching the colours may be difficult) and then attempt to fix the orignal that way i dont loose out - does that make sense? i guess im slightly reluctant diving in head first even though ive spent years (on and off) searching for this exact kind of solution.
any advice guys?
oh and heres a VERY rough outline of the globe (little sketch and a draw around with a naff pen):
