Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

We've had a Grande Plasma in storage since we moved warehouse in 2012 which we were hoping to keep for future use in our office or at home.  Unfortunately storage restrictions and seriously poor cash flow have forced us to consider selling a selection of lamps including this one.

The lamp has been removed from the packaging just once to test as I didn't want to advertise or list on eBay without knowing if it worked but has all original inner and outer packaging.

It's a UK version with UK adaptor and due to the size I'd prefer to send within the UK but will entertain shipping internationally too.

I'm popping this thread up on here before listing on eBay later this week.

The lamp is £59.99 with £12 48-hour shipping within the UK (ParcelForce). If sending internationally I'd just need to check a couple of courier options as I'm on the Isle of Wight (since last year) and haven't yet gotten to grips with the best ones to use.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Cheers.

I am interested in seeing a grande plasma lamp. I did not know lava made a plasma in such a large size!

Hey, thanks for your message.  I'll upload a photo when I get chance.  They were so popular when they were being supplied in the UK a few years ago, then they were discontinued along with the Grande Glitter - such a shame as so many people ask me if I know when they're coming back.

Can you also include a picture of the adapter?  Wondering if its similar to the adapter used on a Smart Astro, as you can actually run the Smart Astro without an upconvertor.  Similar to a laptop, a voltage convertor is built in.  Photo included for reference.

I'm also interested if no one above ends up buying. I've been looking for one of these since I discovered they existed a couple years ago.

I am interested too...if no one above buys. Thanks

Thanks for all your messages - sorry for the delay in uploading photos - I had trouble unpacking the lamp again by myself (I'm small and the polystyrene was not on my side!) then could only use my phone camera in my very messy office so please excuse the poor images with bits of poly everywhere and jumbled background. The base is coming away from the glass as the glue used by the factory is not great with changes in temp.  I could clear the old and use new but will leave it up to the buyer to let me know what they prefer - it will travel fine as it is and works perfectly sat in the base as per an Astro etc.

Jim - unfortunately the adaptor is a very chunky solid one (see pic) which doesn't resemble the one used for the Smart Astro.  However, it may be worth checking whether the Grande Plasma can function with a standard US adaptor ignoring this one completely.  It may be that the power requirement isn't as much as the 230v of this adaptor but I am only speculating.

Whoops - seems the photos are spinning sideways when uploaded - sorry people they were upright here so don't know how to stop that...

Impressive, thank you for sharing it with us! I would love to buy it but only see the price going up since I am overseas, priced very well on your side though.  I am sure you will find a buyer after seeing it!

The photos are fine. You're probably just viewing them with a browser that doesn't support their rotation tags. (Many cameras these days always capture images in one orientation, but add a tag indicating which way they should be displayed.)

As for the power adapter, that one will need 230V. It's a different kind of transformer than the Smart Astro adapter pictured above (and indeed most adapters sold today), and will produce an output voltage proportional to the input. The best option would be to find a 110V -> 15V AC (not DC) transformer (1400mA minimum, though more is fine) to replace it. The only possible problem would be if the lamp actually requires 50Hz AC, though most likely it will work fine at 60Hz.

Yes I know shipping can be really expensive - have just asked a couple of couriers who quoted £62.50 and then £45 to the US for the same size / weight parcel so would have to shop around a little more to get the best price. If it was at our warehouse on the mainland it would be cheaper so It might be worth me popping it over there when I next go over, if no-one buys in the meantime.

Thanks for the photos. Did you check to make sure it does work? If it does and no one above me buys it, I am interested. Thanks

Hi, yes It does work - I've uploaded the photo of it switched on, above - it's about 4 messages above this one, with just the one photo numbered 0306.  Are you in the US Kim? No-one has actually bought it yet.  I'm happy to sell to the first one who is able to make payment and take delivery asap as I need to ship out of the office to clear some space. It would be sent via a 3-4 day service as that seems to be the most economic option I've found so far.  I will round the price down a little if shipped internationally as I know the shipping is a large proportion of the cost.
