Hi,
I've got a Telstar Mathmos bottle who's got a lazy flow.
Nearly never make it to the top, very slow flow.
I switch the bottle with another Telstar Lamp, this is not a base issue as the other bottle works well.
This is a formula issue.
What can I add to cure this lamp?
A little Propylene Glycol? Some Glycerin?
Something else? (I don't want to use salt in my Mathmos')
thanks

- How long have you run the lamp for - is it hot enough?
- Where did you get it from - if from Mathmos then just return it
- I think propylene glycol or glycerine wont really affect it, i have used epson salts with a fue mathmos bottles and they do the job fine.
This lamp take a long time to run (for a telstar), but even at full temp, it never flows like my other telstar.
It flows, but really a lazy way, and has always been like that (I bought it a long time ago, so no return).
Have you been running / had it for a while as it could be that the wax may be dead.
Really what i would suggest would be to add some epson salt mix to it - that should help it flow better.
No I barely used it because of the bad flow.
I don't want to put salt in it.
Propylene Glycol could work ... get the lamp up to temperature, and slowly add PG in small quantities, allow to cycle for a while ... watch then repeat. Slowly slowly - too much & it'll blob like mad ;o(
Thanks Simon, but I'm sorry I didn't saw your message before as I already added few drops tonight.
I hope I didn't put too much as the warming stage is strange.
Will put the result in few hours, but I'm a little affraid...
Don't mess with the messer....It never works...;)
No change yet. I added few more drops again and it's still lazy (the most boring lamp ever)
I think I will add some gookit surf.
I don't think adding surf to it is a good idea - its a issue with the water densty not the consistancy of the wax.
If you find that its rising and flowing properly but not braking up then add some surf.
I added at least 10ml of propylene Glycol, and a dozen drops of surf.
This is not completely a succes, as the lamp is now more alive (good) but it's because of water bubbles I didn't have before (bad).
So I'll let it run, hoping to get rid of the bubbles (but without the bubbles the flow is still poor).
