Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Making a lamp; is any bottle suitable?

I'm planning to try and make a lava lamp with an old gumball machine, but was recently told the glass isn't heat-proof so may break. So I was wondering about the home-made lava lamps with heads and absolut bottles etc. Are they made of special 'heat-proof glass'? 

 

Any advice or information on this would be greatly appreciated.
