Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Just scored an early Regency with the metal cap. I plan on putting this globe in my Empress wall mount. The wooden topped globe that's presently in the Empress will then go in this base. This swap will make the Empress "correct".

Too cool! Way to go Fog!
That's a brilliant lamp :)
Somebody who is nosy wanted me to ask exactly how much you scored it for. Tacky, I know.
i thought i saw it on ebay two weeks ago for $199 but he relisted for a lower amount
MAN that is special!! I love the wall mounted look, reminds me of flaming torches in medevial times...not that I was there personally, mind....
so how long have you had the empress? it looks brand new.
Now that I notice it, the top is different on the table model vs the wall mount:

Still a very rare lamp. Looks like I'll still be searching foe a metal top for the Empress (Or maybe I'll have one machined for me).
The stepped Empress cap (also used on Regency in early catalogs) is so rare, it has NEVER BEEN SEEN!

...and, until now, neither has the metal cap variant you've got. Congrats on owning the very first known example of a known lamp. And I say, it's probably appropriate for your Empress. My guess? They switched BOTH to the new metal cap, and it was harder to change the illustration of the Empress since it had a background. This was, of course, before the Empress was discontinued and the Regency - later Royal (the Empress and Regency together had been the "Royal Series") was switched to a wooden cap.
Thanks for the information Jonas. I was wondering about the cap variations on the Regency and Empress models. I'm pretty sure that another member has a Regency with a metal top on it. I can't recall who owns it, but I'd be interested in seeing a photo of it again. I'd like to document all the Regency models.
There are only a couple of lava lamp models yet to be seen. In my mind the holy grail of lava lamps would be the very first Century model with the one piece base with the rotary switch mounted in the base. I believe you have a picture of one from a very early brochure. I've been looking for 10 years now, and have yet to see one.
