Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

My first icon, a Galactic, Craigslist find. Did I do well?

I've been poking around a bit on icons and most instances say these came with a lavender/white globe.  Were these available with other colors too?  The photo doesn't really show it, but the goo appears blue rather than purple.  It seems to go well with the colors on the ceramic.

Not a nick or scratch on it!  It is a little dirty but seems to work well.  Has a few bubbles in the goo but it probably hasn't been run for a while and I have the dimmer turned up all the way.  The globe is dated 1999.

I've had this guy running all afternoon and I have to say it is probably the best flowing lamp I have!  Man does that globe get hot!  If any of my other lamps got this hot they'd have all the goo at the top.  Do icons have a different mixture to better tolerate the extra heat?

You know, others are welcome to post comments too.  Kind of pathetic that I post in my own threads more often than others seem to....   :)

The "official" globe color is a purple/white, but there is no rule that says you need to run what they intended you to run.  I personally run a blue/red in my "Sharks" Icon as it seems more appropriate to me that a blue/white (the whole blood in the water thing).  You definitely got yourself a nice Icon there.  One I would consider one of the "upper tier" Icons.

Here is what it looks like with the purple/white globe.

I have to wonder if the previous owner swapped the globe or bought it that way.  She said she bought it new.  Had I known about the color thing I would have asked her if it got changed over the years.  I guess I could e-mail her and ask.  She'd probably think I'm a nut for wanting to know!

Anyway, it was fun to find a nice one.  Craigslist has paid off again, certainly better than ebay in the long run.  So hard to find bargains on ebay anymore.

nice find for sure!

Great lamp, I am a fan of the ceramics. I got my purple splotch from CL.

Actually, Craigslist has been my only source so far other than regular retail.  The thrift stores haven't yielded anything but I don't hit them regularly.

I've only got one lamp from an antique/ thrift store, they had a Carlisle for $10

Previous owner said it came new with clear/blue.  Who knows.  Looks pretty the way it is though.  Not sure I like it enough to keep it around since it could lead to other things I'd like to have more.
