Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I bought a new neon green LL from my local Spencer's last week and during the first run i noticed what I thought was unmelted wax floating in the wax. I figured after a few runs the particles would melt and it would mix together, but after about 50 hours of run time these particles are still there. The particles are various sizes ranging from finger nail clippings to grains of salt. The cap code is 13092102 D1 which looks like its a late 2013 lamp. Has anyone had this problem before and if so is there anyway to fix it or is it a lost cause and worthy of a return to Spencer's? It's frustrating considering everything else about the lamp is great.

Sorry in advance about the pictures, I can't seem to get the settings just right.

You could run it with a 60W bulb, and that might provide enough heat to melt those particles.  Or when cold, you could open it up, drain and save the liquid, and then boil the bottle and the wax.  High heat boiling might melt those particles.  Search for boil, you'll find some information.

If it were me and I wasn't happy with a new lamp, I'd return it.  While I'm willing to put in the time and effort on vintage lamps, I'll no longer do it on new lamps.

This happened to me as well. Same color as yours and everything. I also had an accent size lamp with purple wax that had this same issue except WAY worse, but it cleared up after a few days. My green one, unfortunately, is not clearing. I'm no expert, but I'd guess that is doesn't get hot enough to melt the bits like the accent did. I'm keeping my green one because, like yours, it works magnificently otherwise and it offers a premier size lamp to goo kit later on if I want.

If it were me i would return it and try and get another with a different batch code.

If you still have the same issue then try to super heat the wax that may help but ovesely as soon as you open the globe you cant take it back.

I'd return it. Sends the message the quality isn't what it should be. Never keep a new lamp that isn't to your satisfaction, even if it is $20.

Luckily, almost all of the unmelted bits have disappeared since I posted this, but I do appreciate you guys' help. I really wish Lava Lite would bring production back to the US; kinda sad only having Mathmos to depend on for high quality lamps, I'd buy one if they weren't so pricey not to mention their incompatibility with 120V. Maybe one day.
