Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

my parents just brought me a new lamp for christmas, and it looks like it went through a very rough shipping. there is melted wax adhered to the walls of the globe most of the way up. because of that, i can't tell for sure how cloudy the liquid might be.

after turning it on to try an on-off cycle, as soon as i saw initial movement, i gently lifted it out of the base, and the liquid under the main wax is perfectly clear. is that a good sign that the rest will clear once the wax comes off the globe?

Can you post a picture? That might help us out. Just make sure the coil is flat on the bottom.
yeah, the coils are both flat. it's one of the green-blue-red ones though, and it looks like it's going to have the problem of all of the lava staying stuck against the side with no apparent motion even after 6 hours being on. i've taken a couple pictures and will post them later. it's back on for the second 'on' cycle now.

too lazy to link all the pics in, but here's one:

the rest of them are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/trav23/sets/72157625811205204/

that gunk was stuck all around the inside of the globe when i first unboxed it. now it looks like there's little balls all around the globe instead of the big nasty chunks. but, the lava will not flow normally, it just climbs about halfway up one wall, and then there's no more movement until i turn it off. the liquid is still very cloudy. in one of the pics you can see there is some white stuff collecting at the bottom of the globe. there's a little more there each time i run it.

the customer service for the website where my mom ordered the lamp - www.coolstuffcheap.com - was actually very decent to work with. he took all my info, and will place an order with lava world to have them ship me a new one directly, rather than one that's been sitting around in the website's warehouse, so with any luck, it will be better. and he says they almost never want the bad ones back, but if they do, they will include a shipping label. AND that they typically send a whole lamp rather than just a globe. so i should end this with a spare to play with, try to fix or sell for parts or whatever. we'll see.
Good god, that's horrible. I hope you get a good replacement. Sadly, new lamps from Lava World aren't usually pretty to look at. :(

lava world is dead, they were sold to lava lite. I beg to differ i have two lava lite lamps that flow great. They are grande and 8 oz. accent.

I am sick of the weird white flakes. The china lamps are a hit or miss. Some of mine flow good and are clear, others have the flakes and cloudiness. Old news but wanted to reply, catching up on here, Simple boycott purchasing these lamps stay off internet retail sites and refuse to buy them at Spencers. Save your money and get a Mathmos globe!

I also have one 52 oz china lamp that flows... but I just hate the odd shade of pink water it has.. so I dont run it and it sits also..I work to hard for my money to play hit or miss on lamps..
