Hey, everyone! Firstly, I want to thank everyone on the forum. I've been lurking for over a week to get tips on how to fix, then completely redo, lava lamps.
I currently have a 20oz and 2 8oz Clearviews (all from Target) that I purchased to redo. The Goo Kit arrived on Friday and I've been happily experimenting. It seems that the Goo Kit wax works better in larger lamps? I get good sized globs that move well, but I'd like a bit smaller and snakier. Is that possible through thinning the kit wax with, say, vaseline or mineral oil?

Hi Corutney, welcome to the forum
Don't even bother with gookiting the 8oz it just wont be better then what you have and the quantities are so small that it could be tricky getting it to work anyway.
Gookiting the 20oz is ok but gookits work better in larger lamps - hear is one of my gookited 20oz'er. http://oozinggoo.ning.com/photo/lavander-gookit?context=user
The way to 'thin' the wax would be to use slightly more surf but just enough to make it snaky but not bubbly - other ingredients aren’t needed at all with gookits as it is all ready to go - no balancing the density's.
I'll try more surf. I does sit on the bottom for quite a while before flowing. Maybe this is it.
Nice color on the purple beast, Tim! I wouldn't even have guessed the paint on the base wasn't a pro job!
It may not have enough heat to get flowing if it just sits there
I am really pleased about the purpal lamp as well, its about using good paint and taking your time and prep to achive a good finish.
Update: I put in more surf and it's flowing a lot better! It's ropier now, and there's more motion. I was trying to stick with 4-5mL as the tutorial suggested, but I think I've doubled that. I'll give it a cooldown cycle overnight and see how it behaves tomorrow, too.
This is so much fun! I'm gonna try to make those small ones work. They're just so cute!
