Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

This question is for a friend of mine . He has the blue glitter wizard. Well it arrived with what seems to be rips in the stopper. Is there any way to restore or replace the stopper? Is he in any danger if he chooses to use the lamp reguardless of the defective stopper? All I know is that there are horrible fumes that seem to be escaping from the bottle cap. When you remove the wizard cone cap the smell is extra strong underneath where the bottle cap is. I don't understand why his lamps stopper is damaged, any help will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone

The stopper or plug should be replaced and the bottle recapped.

The liquid in a Wizard is solvent-based, and if the lamp is run for long periods of time, the hot solvent eventually degrades the plug.  If left uncorrected, the degraded plug will deposit some nasty plastic plug goo in the liquid that will float on top.  And you're right, the escaping fumes are rather unpleasant, too.

I have original Wizard plugs.  They are RC-11 plugs.  Unfortunately, they are only sold in bulk.

I'd be happy to sell 5 plugs for $5, including USPS First Class shipping.  Alternatively, you can mail me the globe, and I'll insert a new plug and recap it with the original cap for $20, USPS Priority Return Shipping included.

Hi Kirk, Thank you for your help in this matter. I'll ask what he wants to do about this globe. Because I'm thinking that if he tried to ship it to you to have the stopper put in it may leak more in transit. So the best idea would probably be getting the plugs for the glitter globe. This globe must have been like this when he bought it from the seller because when it arrived in the mail there was that same horrible smell all over the packing material. I'll let you know what he says.
Thanks a lot.
