Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Wife is having a garage sale.... in  digging out stuff I found an older lava globe.. very low on fluid.. misssing its SCREW OFF lid.    Now..  once I find a cap I can screw on...  can I go the distilled water and goo kit surfactant route to make it run.  Or do I have to use their goo for proper flow?    Have no idea where I got this thing...  and really I shouldn't be even trying since most of my inventory is on sale in the garage....  but, I just like to tinker.     I'm still pouting about selling my FF #4 and Giant Sized X Men #1......  crown jewels of my meager comic collection....    ah well...........  getting old is a *****.

thanks.....
