These are sick it sucks that you were never able to get in touch with the seller.
If they are just repainted the painter did a pretty damn good job because the paint job looks exactly like the paint jobs on the other icons. Even the colors match the colors used by Lava (the colors on the bones correspond almost exactly with the colors of a Seamore icon). For that reason I think these may not have been a custom paint job.
This coupled with the fact that I have never seen that lion before makes me think that Dr. What?! is right in believing that these are prototypes...could be wrong though.
And the Lion is awesome. If you still have the seller's information it might be worth a shot to try contacting him again.

If I recall the listing it did say they were prototypes from the seller's father or something along those lines.

Seems lavaworld did quite a number of protoypes. I have a one off that was handmade from a technician brought to a boardroom.
