Helpful Hint.
if you lose the spring from the globe when restoring it, you can always use stainless steel wire mesh screen. The bigger the mesh size, the better
You can use a stainless steel sink strainer with the chrome edge removed
Or stainless steel spring disc

Very interesting. Anything to give an anchor to the goo!

not so much an anchor but to transfer the heat generated by the bulb, without it the goo will just sit there in a gelatinous mass
