Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I got a 1973 century, It is like grayish green lava and faded blue liquid. It looks really cool. I noticed the coil has this white stuff around it. It looks like bad wax, should I unscrew the cap and replace it or leave it. Would it even change the lamp. I have an extra coil from a 52 oz that I scavenged. Thanks for all your help in advanced.

okay. How can I tell what model it is, I think it has fade. Also how do i remove the screw cap, just to know because it is on there.
I have the same lamp with the same situation.  I have tried heating the wax without fluid but the white wax still didn't combine with the rest.  The lamp runs fine and the white is not noticeable, so unless you just want to experiment there is no need to try to "fix" it.  ;)
I agree, as long as you have good flow, dont mess with it :)
