Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I bought and was shipped a grande lava lite and it arrived with cloudy liquid. After much research (thanks to this site!!) I was able to drain and fix the cloudy liquid and it is flowing beautifully. Here is the problem.....the glass globe itself is "streaky" and seems to have residue that I have been unable to remove. I have tried water and vinegar, mr. clean magic eraser, rubbing alcohol. Still streaky. One of the fixes i tried before cracking the bottle top was to run it through the dishwasher. I FEAR I may have etched the glass in the dishwasher, ANY SUGGESTIONS??

P.S. - the vinegar I used to clean the globe was rice, NOT white vinegar (I was out of white) I wonder if this would make a difference?
