total beginner question!

hey there guys sorry if what im about to ask seems really stupid and amateurish i dont mean to insult anybody by coming on here and asking what may be a ridiculous question but none the less!

basically i wanted a black and white lava lamp for my dormroom and then i found out about those absoult lamps. basically i wanted to create my own using a different bottle, can i just transfer the lava and stuff from a lava lamp i bought into an empty glass bottle? then just use the same base to put it on?

Yes, you can but clean the bottle with lots of soap and water. If you don't wax will stick to the sides. Basically pour the fluids into a glass jar (some of the lamps dissolve plastics). Then melt the wax down, and pour it into the bottle through a funnel. Also you can melt the wax down and pour it into another glass jar and get a clean knife and cut out little pieces and put them into the bottle. Then melt the wax down and when it is hard simply pour the fluids in. Don't forget to put the metal heating coil in the bottle or it wont work. Make sure the bottle fits in your base before doing any of this or you could ruin your lamp.

thanks for your reply. I think im going to try it then. i will soon have a bit of spare money floating around to try out this idea. how large is the metal heating coil? small enough to fit through a bottle head im guessing?
