Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

I own a lava lite model e127444-b that I got a long time ago. The base is 98 mm wide and around 51 mm deep (measured from the top of the bulb).

The wax is starting to deteriorate so I want to get a replacement. The new lava lite models seem to be of questionable quality, but the Mathmos ones seem exceptional. Unfortunately, the cost of a new Mathmos plus the cost to route it through a temporary address to the U.S would be somewhere around $200 which is a bit ridiculous. Could I get a much cheaper replacement Mathmos bottle for the astro model and put it in my base? My concern is that it might not fit or the bulb might not work properly for it.

Thanks!
