Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hello,
I am a Chemistry Instructor and I finding that it is difficult to find perchloroethylene. Does anyone know of a source in the Bay Area? Has anyone been successful in finding a suitable substitute for increasing the density of the wax?

The most commonly used material is "brake cleaner" from a autoparts store. There are 2 kinds, with perc and without perc, just make sure you get the right one......good luck in Cali you may not be able to get the perc at all.
