Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

My Neon green lava lamp was a little cloudy when I got it but it has cleared up some, but not enough that I can live with it, specially when it is sitting next to one that is crystal clear. Anyway I was told that maybe adding some vinegar or white wine vinegar (not sure if there is a difference) could help speed up the process.

I have been running it in four hour cycles as often as I can and recently started running it just long enough to heat up the water and then turning it off. Another internet tip.

Any ideas...?

I am curious as to where you heard this, vinegar would help clean the glass of a globe however i would thing that the strong acidic state of it would cause more harm than good in a solution that is as gravity specific as that in a lava lamp. Vinegar would cause wax break down I would assume since it can be used as a natural cleaner.

From the guy at Spencer's who sold me the lamp. He said he heard it somewhere but didnt know for sure if it would work.Based on the pics I posted, do you have any suggestions?

most new cloudy lamps never clear up unless they are filtered

Ok my neon was cloudy when I got it. And what I found that worked. On my four days of work I don't run my lamps, and after 4 days it settled. It was like a white kinda goo that settled and when I ran it, it mixed back into the wax. This mite work for u

The two most unreliable sources of information:

random internet searches, and the guy selling you a defective product :(

Im starting to get discouraged, so I will leave it off for like a week and see if maybe it settles. On a side note how do you filter a lava lamp?
