Something Interesting About Me:
I am a Lava Lamp nut from way back.....l am always looking for new lamps to add to my collection. Ah, Lava Lamps....It's an addiction....but crack is just way to expensive!
Please check out my online site (and give me some hits to bump up my Google rating!) www.6-ft-under.com !!!!! Thanks!!
PS Yes the car in the photo is a hearse....I own 5 of 'em.

Where I Live:
In my own little world.
My First Lava Lamp was:
I first fell in love in a yard with tall grass tickling the backs of my knees. The love of my life was on a low plywood table held up by milk crates. The owner of the yard sale saw me staring, and said "$1 and she's all yours." Well happily to say this relationship has seen many years and more loves (lamps)...but my original Lava Lamp and I are together still.....our love burns (and bubbles) hot as always!

You be da bomb gal! My Hero! All the lava boyz want to marry you.
    Hahahaha!

For my other 3 cloudy filled with gunk Grandes I'm going just dump them then fill one with 5 52z's and the other 2 I'm going with Lava Louie. I'm stilll dealing with getting the wax right on the first Grande, 10 days in. Took all the gunk out and the wax is too hard. It needs some gunk. Melting hard and soft together as I write. I'll give 'em a good slow simmer to combine well, rest overnight, then refill and check the flow. I'll let you know how it goes.

You go gurl. YOU ARE MY LAVA HERO.
    Hahahahahaha!

Yes, real mess. There is gooey lava all over a small kinda solid core like soap sitting in water. It was a mess and took forever to get it all out. After running I found I took too much out. The wax needs some gunk to be soft enough to glow properly. Tonight I took out some of the hard wax and added the wax from a 52z and some of the gunk. It's slow cooking to combine now. I'll refill Thursday night then run. If the wax is still not right I'm tossing it.
I am determined and feel good about this last batch o wax. We'll know when we know and it'll be soon!

You are so welcome - it is a group effort and it is so much fun because of creative people like you. (love your new poem by the way.) Keep your eyes peeled for some holiday time shenanigans too.

  • Dangerousden

Yes please, I would love to know how to make the head.
I suppose the same rules apply for making any kind of lava lamp, whether it be a head, a bottle or whatever?
  • Dangerousden

ok, if you don't mind getting me one that woukd be great.
I have found the gasket seal & have ordered it, but I also need the base to put the head on. Can you get it when you get the head?
  • Dangerousden

Yes I still would like you to get me a head & the lamp base if possible.
I've got the gasket seal, so will be ready to go if you get the other bits.
    Thanx
    Den
  • Dangerousden

Haven't bought the lamps yet as was waiting until the head & base arrived. There is a lava lamp store not too far from me where I should be able to get the lamps I need . I'm thinking Green wax.

Thanks for the advance ... I'll be looking out. How long have you been collecting/making lamps? Would love to learn how to make one.
  • Ralph Hughes

PS. Still trying to figure out the bottle cap numbers significance. Could you help by pointing me in the right direction? Thanks!
  • Ralph Hughes

Hey there young lady: With the vast collection you have...maybe you'd be interested in a trade for my bong Vodka lamp...have only had it a few months and have original packaging. Let me know OK? Thanks and as always its been MY pleasure. Ralph
  • Ralph Hughes

Good Morning Roberta: Wow-thats a groovy site...So tell me are YOU the vixen gypsy? I never knew a lot of these lamps even existed. Particularly love the Sgt. Peppers. Have seen Yellow Submarine before and thought that was pretty cool. Instead of me picking something, why don't you tell me what you would be willing to trade? You mentioned something about some of your "originals" As always-It has been MY pleasure Look 2 hear from You. Ralph
  • Ralph Hughes

Oh yeah-thanks a lot for your help on deciphering those numbers. I feel smarter already.
  • Eternal_Eidolon

Hey just wanted to drop you a line to see how you were. Later
  • Ralph Hughes

Good Morning Roberta: You got my attention with the Pittsburgh Steelers ... They R my team...I am born & raised there right in the city. Have you done a Penn State? Bought one and the Lava won't flow...plus takes one of those impossible to find candelabra bulbs...a rip off. Yellow and Black would look awesome...my 2 Steelers lamps are yellow/yellow and only one flows well. Would definitely be interested in those for trade or purchase. Also really am liking the older Resin lamps and the wild color electrics I think they are called. Understand there are some blacklight reactive colors as well. Have a great day young lady!
  • Ralph Hughes

    Suspense is killin' me.
  • Eternal_Eidolon

Hey hun, no new piercings, new tat very shortly. New lamps. Some exciting stuff. I'll take pictures as soon as I can. My laptop had to be sent out to get the disc drive replaced so I don't have it right now to upload pix. So yeah. When I can I'll upload my newest additions. I'm getting pretty good if I must say so myself with my lamps. Eager to see what you think. I wanna update my profile soon as well with a new pic so my face can be seen lol. Well KIT.
  • Kris

I know this might be a stupid question so please forgive me - have you seen the actual show - Six Feet Under?
  • Jennifer

Thanks!!! I am using equal amounts of parrafin wax, mineral oil, and perk and liquid candle dye. I got the recipe from cpu2hot's perfect goo and liquid discussion. The liquid is the usual epson salt and watered down dishwashing soap. I was so pleasantly surprised at the results. I must say, I wish the goo was not so transparent, and on the yellow one it will stick to one side until I turn it a couple of times and then it flows like the pic. Also, just a hint, I seem to have to add a huge amount of salt with this recipe. In the smaller globes it can get quite cloudy and salt will just sit at the top of the globe. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions!
  • Jennifer

The hot rocks was orginally neon yellow with blue water. I added lava world cream colored wax. It is actually my avatar pic. I loved the flow on it but it clouded and so I started over with the liquid, hoping to keep the same flow. Oh well. It's really hit or miss to get the little bubbles like I prefer.
  • Jennifer

Now that's gorgeous wax, I love the flows on both of these. It's just hard to perfect it sometimes-soap is so iffy! I have tried a couple of time with glitter lamps, and I have given up-it takes a lot for me to give up on these lamps-I'm a pit bull until I get it right! I could not get anything to happen. I heard to use pure perk, but it is so toxic, when I mix up my goo and add the perk, I have to put a towel over my mouth and nose and pour outside! I even bought a glitter off ebay and tried to use it's liquid, but I guess I didn't get the correct glitter. I'm sticking to the goo until someone comes up with a better recipe for glitter! Do you make your own goo? Your light bulb picture is so amazing. Surely that is not a real light bulb?
  • Jennifer

Don't be nervous, this recipe is so easy. I do one cup of each ingredient. It never truly hardens in the container that you store it in so all you have to do is stir it and it will pour right into a globe. Color it and then heat it on the lamp for a while (I think this might help all the ingredients to merge) and then I like to put it in the fridge for a while, it helps harden up the wax so I can pour the water in. Then continue on as usual, like I said-it takes a lot of salt compared to regular wax. Feel free to ask questions, I try to keep up on here regularly, just comment on my page so I'll get an email warning. Good luck!
  • Jennifer

I checked out your ebay items and I've been stalking your glitter with the candle! Where in the world did you find it? It's so unusual!
  • Jennifer

Hey Bert! Just wondering if you ever tried to make your own wax? I'm still making some, it's kind of hit or miss, but what a challenge! Have a good day!
  • IdOrU 02

Waowww... I'm so jealous about your night Yellow/green. IT was a picture like this that drove me into lava lamps some years ago. I tried to copy that with Mathmos lamps without any luck at all!
  • David

Hey there! I'll get some more fossil pics posted for ya! 100 pics?? Wow, I've got to get cracking!! David ;O

  • ☆VixenGypsy☆

LOL... DOH! Thanks for the double pics... funny!
  • Chupacabra

With an imagination like yours I'm sure you will pick a good color. Probably some new color combination. I will be watching for your skull. Any ideas for your base? The bottom of my Crystal Skull is square.
  • Chupacabra

Sounds awesome! You got lucky with that tin. It is hard to find the right size to fit these unusual bottles. I saw some plastic bushings @ Lowes today that would snap into the hole in your tin to protect your cord from the sharp edges. You probably already know about these. I am going to try them on some of my lamps. Watch out for the Gorilla Glue or you will be walking around with a Lava Skull in your hand for good. LOL. That is some of the strongest glue I have ever seen. Keep up the good work.
