Own my own shop for beads, jewelry, costume design as well as all kinds of other cool stuff i bring from the swamp.. I still work for the doctor as it being a part of who i am. Life here in the Big Easy is always amazing.. .I love retro, vintage swag and antique items especially anything with lights glass great colors..Life is so fast any more its nice to put my bean bag on the living room floor turn on my small collection of lamps crank up some Reggae music and chill while I watch my lava roll and flow... my own form of meditation.
Where I Live:
New Orleans , La
My First Lava Lamp was:
grew up with loads of these type of items... fantasia fiber optic lamps, every motion light board know..my dad owned a bar/liq. store, my family still has a huge amount of it in their basements that all my family has converted into party rooms. Old juke boxes, simply amazing ...
Nope - love the photos Kira. Lava lamps are interesting on their own, but the site (in my opinion) is as much about us as collectors as the lamps themselves. I could give a crap about robots collecting lava lamps, I'm a people person. Even if the robot had 5 Imperials and 7 Lunars I would rather socialize with the person who shows the silly giddiness that a $5 garage sale find can bring.
Keep posting the pics. While we love to see your lamps, we love to learn more about you as a person.
Just look at some of the threads our new mods are responsible. Erin with her "show us your face" thread and Dr. What with the Pet thread. This is what the site is all about. This is why I check on Art as a new storm approaches Memphis, why I talk to Dr. What on the phone after a bad storm. This site is about way more than lava lamps and I like it like that.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure something out for the contest, something totally crazy and original! Thanks for the warm welcome and I think I'll be doing some talking around here much more often :)
Thanks for the welcome. I should be getting my first goo kit any time now. I'm hoping to use all the purple dye in my Grande to get the almost black look I've seen on here.
I did see that auction. I'm not sure if I replied in the right spot. This host site gets me lost and confused. That's why I don't post much anymore since the site moved from the other server.
Hi Kira, I have never seen such a fibre optic before. The glass looks a little bit like holmegaard though, thats a danisch glass manufacturer but I sincerly doubt that they made fibre optics...honestly...no clue, sorry. http://www.google.de/search?q=holmegaard&oe=utf-8&rls=org.m...
If I do go down to New Orleans I will defiantly give a shout out, Last time I went to N.O. I went to the creole creamery and did the "Tchoupitoulas" challenge and beat, needless to say I was sick the whole drive home. Do you usually party hard for Halloween? I went a few years ago but I was 20 so I couldn't really get into bars.
We have a lot in common, I also collect Midcentury lamps, retro stuff, and on and on. I did post some Lava Lamp photos which I took last night. You have a great collection Thanks
I wish I lived closer so I could experience the Walk into Hell in person, in the correct mindset. You have motivated to take more photos, which I love to do, however I also can be very content at watching the clouds go by. Sometimes I have to pust myself to get the camera crankin, I just tell myself 15 minutes, just grab and shoot. You are correct *my opinion* lighting and the angles that you highlight really take the effect to the next level of perception. I work from 3pm to to 1130pm and I stay up usually till dawn, so most of my photos are night work. Keep up the good work, wish I had a small portion of your energy.
Your Father must be an interesting person, I bet he is close to my age. You are lucky to have such "Kool" parents. I have plenty more lamps and other collectibles to photograph. I now have a new collectible, Lava;s $ Glitter lamps. Oh no! He's started to collect lamps again. TIme for another intervention, just kidding.
Have I "received" my Imperial? Well, I drove from CT down to Kentucky (and back, of course--about 1900 miles in 48 hours) to fetch it. So yes, I have it. And while it needs some restoration, it doesn't need as much as I originally thought it would. So that's nice.

About the "penguin rocket" I was unsure about it at first but came to love it just for being different.
