Lava lamps are only a fraction of my collecting hobbies. My others are no less unusual, and likeky more so, including but not limited to smoking pipes, Geissler tubes and other scientific glassware, clocks, door chimes, rain lamps, fiber optic lamps, vintage lighting fixtures, tiki torches, and vintage ceiling fans. I tend to have a poor short-term memory at times, so if we agree to a sale or trade, email and badger me frequently or I will forget quickly. My email address is KitDaKat@aol.com.
Do you happen to have a extra pumpkin icon lava lamp that you would sell to me? I have been looking for one for a long time.

Hi there. It looks like you are very well versed in all kinds of lamps! I am a newbie. I saw a Florence Art Co. red oil glitter lamp on eBay the other day. I have never seen one of these before and had no reference point for it's rarity or value. I couldn't be there for the end of the auction. It was started at $9.99. I bid $78 for it. Someone outbid me at the last minute. Do you have any ideas how much these go for and where I might be able to find one? I am going to try to put the link here to the eBay auction that I was outbid on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170225037148&ssPageName=STRK:MEDW:IT&ih=007
This is what the lamp looks like. Any ideas?
Also, I saw a posting that you were looking for a revolving beacon lamp. I tried to look online for you, but see you've been to most everywhere I already went. I did find one patent photo of one of their lamps - here's the link:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=XbNxAAAAEBAJ&dq=%22swiss+harmony%22+%2Blamp
I don't know if you've seen this shape before or not. Also, here is a photo of an item on eBay which says it's by that same Swiss Harmony company:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ROSE-STAINED-PLASTIC-GLASS-TABLE-LAMP_W0QQitemZ140239274372QQihZ004QQcategoryZ1406QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I know it's not what you're looking for, but maybe it had a different shade before and someone replaced it with that. There's also one other strange patent:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=fb9xAAAAEBAJ&dq=%22swiss+harmony%22+%2Blamp
I can't make out if this is a lamp or what it is.
In any case, since I was asking you for help, I tried to see if I could do anything for you in return. I live in PA and do a lot of antique shopping. if I ever see one of those kind of lamps, I will let you know. If I see one at a flea market and it might "get away", if you have a price range that you would be willing to pay for these, that would also be helpful to know. I will keep my eyes peeled as I do a lot of this type of shopping. If possible, please let me know anything you can about what I should expect to pay for one of these Florence Art Co. glitter oil lamps and if you'd be willing to part with one or you know where I might be able to find one, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much for your time and help.
Sincerely,
Jen P.
One other thing I forgot to mention. You probably already know about this, and I don't know if it would be a waste of time or not, but there's a great little Mom and Pop place that are experts in old motion lamps. They even wrote a book on them (I believe). Here's a link to their site:
http://www.smsnoveltiques.com/
I emailed them about an old motion lamp to see if they knew where to look for it, and was very surprised that they actually had it (even though it wasn't on their website at all). If they don't actually have one, they very likely might know where to find the revolving beacon type lamp you were looking for. I think they've been around for a while. Hope this helps.
Best,
Jen P.
Hi again,
I am not sure if you saw this or not, but there was one of your swiss golden beacon lamps that just ended on eBay a few days ago:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SWISS-GOLDEN-BEACON-MARITIME-SHIPS-LIGHT-LIGHT-HOUSE_W0QQitemZ330239018744QQihZ014QQcategoryZ37969QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Sorry you missed it. I will keep my eyes open for you.

Hi Jonas, I just read your reply about the rain lamp. I love them and am getting one from my grandmother soon. I have heard that mineral oil is toxic when heated-sounds weird, but I have a baby on the way and am not sure I'll even take a chance. Do you know anything about that? Also, in your first picture of you pyramid you have the neatest lava/glitter lamp on the floor on the very far right. It has green glitter(i think) and is a really unique bubble shape. Do you mind me asking if you know where to find one?
No, not that I saw, or I would have gotten another color of wax! But the ones on ebay and at target have blue liquid and red goo. They are really pretty.
Yeah, I smell such a slight smell coming from it and that's when it's been run for a while. I've seen a lot of different styles of these and was suprised this one was so plain, but I really enjoy it-It has such a unique effect. Thanks for the comment, I'll pass it on to my husband-the restorer!
jonas ! you seem to be the man to know as a lavaboiler lover. how on earth did u manage to get this image together where you "classify" the different lavaboilers!??? it is gorgeous. did u do that!? i was shocked when i saw what other different style there are, amazing ! i got 12 lavaboilers and only one twice, the tall f.vaudan tube, the largest i have seen, both with orange
beads. all others vary in lots of detail.
best wishes, G
I got my recipe from cpu2hot's Perfect goo and liquid blog. It's really easy-It's just equal parts of paraffin wax, perk and mineral oil. I'm betting the mineral oil is what makes it so transparent. I've never heard of adding this too the goo. I usually just do a cup of each so I have extra on hand. It's nice because it will harden but when you want to use some you just have to stir it and it liquifies again and you can just pour it in a globe without heating. Also, I've noticed that the transparent wax happens when you add only one dye or none. If I mix 2 dyes it looks a lot thicker. The red goo is just red candle dye. I did add 2 drops of yellow food coloring to the water for a vintage look. Hope this helps. It's easy!
Oh, the hot rock's is a total transplant and I painted it gold. I just love the vintage look of lava lamps so I paint almost all my new lamps a gold or even dark brown. I think I've left 2 silver! Thanks for the comments!
Thanks for your comment, I traded my first purple base/lava and clear liquid for my pink/pink through the company I bought the purple lamp from. It's a keeper though! :-)
Hows life treating you? I can honestly say that my collection has evolved. I don't buy much but the things I have bought are a couple of Comets, a triple Florence glitter lamp.. you stuff nice unusual stuff.
I know everytime the Comic-Con happens down here.. I think of your visit and us talking about lava lamps. I still enjoy that rochure book and drawing you did.
Thought I would let you know that I have found some new Fantasia info. The new info reveals that there is a total of 6 different heat sprays. There are also 30 different lamps, not including lamps that are the same but different colors (gold/silver/black).
Thank you I have 2 other squiggles the thing that I found strange it says use only 30R 20 reflector bulb and has a number 8-40250on the inside top and none of my 40w work I did think lava used that type of bulb .
Jonas, I still have that cord and socket from the French glitter I switched over. Let me know if you'd be interested in it, otherwise it's going in the trash! :)
"Hi! I am casting for the TLC series "My Collection Obsession" and it was suggested that I speak with you. Check out the casting call I posted and let me know if you are interested,"
Hey Jonas, I know you like collecting clocks too do you know anything about this? I just won it on ebay. Its like a glitter lamp / clock. I've found pictures online but nothing about where its made etc. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160761741227?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_...
Thats exactly what it is, it didn't come with a bulb so I have to track one down, but its pretty cool looking. I've seen other pics in google light up and its wicked looking.
Thank you for the comments. I had to laugh when I first took the Laff light apart because instead of that thin black and transparent inner sheet of plastic, it had a stapled cardboard cutout.
