Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Bringing this lamp back from the dead. Lava was really chunky and liquid was cloudy. The liquid has cleared up, but there are still chunks in the lava.

Been running with a 60w bulb, the flow is insane!! Hasn't really overheated yet, but I only run it for 4 hours or so at a time.

Ahh I see. I don't own any wizards so I don't know much about them. Didn't realize it was a different socket.

My 19 is a 90's USA lamp with a standard base. Makes it pretty easy to find bulbs. Sorry to hear you can't get the 60w, that sucks. The heat had more to do with getting rid of the chunks in the lava than clearing up the liquid, that has to do with the cold.

I'm sure when the weather heats up a bit I will no longer be able to run a 60 in mine. Its crazy how fast it start working though, has its first "lava orgasm" within 5mins of turning it on!

Good luck with clearing yours up Diin, is your 19 a china lamp??

the intermediate bases would be like the ones found in the wizards and carlisles, and the newer china lamps. or even in some table lamps

are the intermediate bases the smaller base bulbs (like a glitter)? My 32oz 19 is a standard base A 15 Appliance bulb socket.. maybe i'm misunderstanding..

try a 60w Diin. Mine does the tubular thing too with a 40w bulb. Not with the 60w. If it over heats, try a 50w. For some reason my 19 likes 60w better. tried the same in my 32oz 10 and 17 and they both over heat.

If your room is around 65-70 you should have no problem

wow, great flow on that lamp, it flows much better than my 19 :P haha. i may try this method to clear it up. after about 3 hours the lava just turns into a tubular thing. i might have to add some surfacant to it as well.

looks great dude. kudos to you

Just running it hot. The xtra heat is my attempt to to clear up the chunks in the lava. To clear up the liquid I ran it in 8 hour cycles for three days, let it cool down and put the globe in the fridge for 24hours. Then let it sit at room temp for 48hrs and ran it normally for a week. Its almost crystal clear and i haven't had to open it up yet.

The lava is getting a lot better has well from the heat. If i can't clear it up all the way i will open it up, drain the liquid and boil the lava. I'm told this will smooth it out. Hope I don't have to do that.

Have you cleared this lamp up just running it hot or did you filter the fluid too?
Whatever it was you've done a great job :)
