The steel wool doesn't scratch up the inside of the glass? I just bought this long bottle brush, but not sure how good it is going to work as the kit I just redid after scrubbing it out hasn't ran that long yet. I'm having a streaking problem on the inside of my globes with my kits that for the life of me I can't figure out why it keeps happening. The acetone rinse helped a lot but without the actual scrub down, it's not 100 percent. I guess all those little things help. Like you have to scrub, do the acetone rinse, rinse well, scrub with dawn, the whole 9 yards.
Chad, what do you use to scrub them with? I'm working with 52 oz'ers, not exactly easy to get anything down in there!!!
I will remember that Chad. I now have an extra NEW Aristocrat base that could come under project mode sometime soon, I will get a hold of you then, thanks!
They look really cool, I have a absolute lamp as well but not as finished as it dosent have that base, will PM for the details on how to make the holder as that really finishes them off.
Thanks Chad!!! I used a 5 percent bleach wash on this one NASTY I just got from ebay purposely for a kit!!! So far it's ok, but time will tell......also, I was running them really hot for lengthy time periods. I figured what the heck, i can always do a fluid change, but never realized that I could also pull the oils out of the goo and then end up with more then I bargained for!!! Taking down an already kitted lamp to clean the globe is a real pia! So I think I have a 2 fold problem here. Might invest in some acetone or some brakeleen for the inside of my globes just to be on the safe side so I KNOW I'm starting off on a good foot.
Thanks Chad!! That really helped.....oh and you're lamps are beautiful. I've admired them on ebay for a long time and another member of OG mentioned that you were also a member! I would luv to tackle one of those big ones some day! I'm just not a sheet metal kind of girl with making the bases.....maybe I could buy the base off of you and then I could just buy my goo and vessel and do my own.....hey, a gal can dream can't she, lol!!!
chad, a few of my goo kits got some sort of "fog" like streaks on the inside of the globe. I thought it was condensation, so I cleaned out my one globe and did a transplant. I noticed what I thought was condensation was like a white oily film. Now this is in a violet dyed lamp, so it can't be the wax because it's white. Also, when I stick my finger in the globe it's oily. Do you think that could be from me running them too long and too hot? I can't figure out what it is. They're beautiful pristine clear when I first kit them.....then i get that residue. Any ideas?
Chad, you're are using MT goo I presume? If you are I had a question for you about it because I have made quite a few kits.
