Since getting kicked out of anthrocon a few years ago, after walking right in (we had no idea what it was), my family and I have been going to Pittsburgh during anthrocon to see the furries doing their thing. It is strangely interesting. The fursuit parade was outside for the first time. It was something to see. Of course I have to post the picture of the Dalmatian :P After the parade, I talked to some of them, and they were all very friendly. I had previously thought of them as a somewhat exclusive group, not too welcoming of outsiders, but no, they were great! Much, much nicer people than many of the folks of the little town I live in :)
I really don't get the dislike of furries.

Three! Since '97. Never been to Anthrocon, I'm west coast, but I've been to the 2nd-largest, Further Confusion in San Jose, a few times. I usually stick to my home city convention. They are, in general, really friendly people.
99% of the dislike of the fandom comes from two sources: trolls (sometimes descriptively referred to as the Internet Hate Machine), and the fact that, so far, the few TV programs and magazine articles about the fandom have focused intentionally on the freakiest fringes (because juicy stuff sells).
The doe is cloaking as a wolf sometimes. Have a wolf partial fursuit, made by my beloved future husband (we will finally marry in september). Doe fursuit is in work! ^.^
Well, here is one furry, mostly around in the german fandom for 13 years now *hoof waves*
I think, a doe like me is quite rare :D
