@Haze With any other lamp the bubble issue would make me consider selling the lamp, or refilling it with glitter.
But as you said, they flow extremely well, and it would be a crime to miss out on that beautiful lava action,
that being the main reason for sticking with them, and tolerating the bubbles, but man, do they annoy me!
This being normally not tolerable for me, i just can't give her up, she's such a beauty
@RayosBeam - Thanks!
@Haze - yep, the flow of the fluidium is a joy to behold! The shape of the bottle perhaps?
My yellow/clear one has some bubbles, too
none of my 3 fluidiums is actually bubble-free, but it is tolerable
Thing is, even when i manually reduce the bubbles (by gently rotating the bottle with the warm wax settled to the bottom) they magically reappear directly when the bottle is back in the base (which means they are continously produced - I think the goo 'takes a sip' liquid when climbing 'up the step' to the larger compartment above with the larger second coil)
With other 'normal' Mathmos lamps it takes hours or even days for the bubbles to reappear, with the fluidiums they are back instantly.
Now I just live with it, it's the only 'flaw' it has, o k, the base givin off way too much light is another point of concern,
but the lamp itself is such a beauty and the flow one of a kind.
I
Nice pad.
Another thing not going unnoticed is that bubble-free goo in your fluidium
Did you notice the problem too?
With some lamps it is actually minimal, but I haven't seen a Fluidium
without any bubble issues yet
Ver nice, analoghaze, thank you for that great advice,
and the nice photo - impressive!
I'll try that one definitely, gonna get me a blacklight asap
Thanks a lot
and when I'm actually starting to goo kit my lamps
the blacklight will come in handy , gotta try those neon dyes
Thanks, your comment is appreciated
The contents of the bottle of the green Fluidium consist of green goo in blue liquid,
unfortunately the base of the fluidiums outshines the upper part of the lamp,
in this case that means that the green goo doesn't glow and it isn't as clearly distinguishable
from the liquid as in an Astro or any other Mathmos lamp.
I'll definitely try to get hold of a green/clear bottle for bettter visibility of the lava action.
But the design of the Fluidiums makes them prone to bubbles, a problem all fluidiums have to a certain degree.
2 out of my 3 Fluidiums produce more bubbles than I actually find tolerable, and I believe it is due to the design of the bottle with its second compartment with another second coil at the bottom of the bottle.
The lamps itself is an absolute beauty designwise, even though the base outshines the bottle. the halogen reflectors address that problem to a certain degree, by the way they bundle the light in one direction.
Problem is, they make the lamp/goo too warm, that is why i switched back to bulbs or at least conventional bulbs with another shape - (out)shining base effect included
I totally love the Fluidium, but it has it's flaws.
But can't wait to have clear/green, perhaps I'll sunfade the globe/bottle
but at the moment I'm still hoping to find a stock mathmos bottle in that color combo.
Fortunately used Mathmos lamps/bottles are not that hard to find in Europe.
