Jim, mine doesn't look like it has ever been used much but the base has already sagged in the middle to the extent that it will wobble around unless it has thicker little feet stuck to the base. The previous owner stuck some chunks of popsicle sticks to the base with double sided tape which I've removed and replaced with little cork/rubber feet I got at the hardware store. Not sure if the correct 15w bulb would do damage like shown in the link you shared, but I rarely run my stuff very long. That's kind of why I've been gravitating toward glitters and plasma, instant gratification. As it is, all my lavas at home would get turned off as soon as they start to flow except maybe on a weekend and on weekends I'm too busy doing other things most of the time anyway.
Keith, I know, just her comment made me think about my observation that it didn't get very hot.
Just be careful with that GemLite Rich, as several members have suffered damaged/melted/warped bases. Even with the recommended wattage, don't run the lamp too, too long. Great looking lamp BTW and congrats!

lol, I don't think she was talking about the temperature of the globe
Funny thing about these GemLites, they don't get very hot. Regular lava glitters get as hot or hotter than lava globes, but this thing is just barely warm to the touch. The bulb is very small and low watts, 15w I believe. The fluid they used in these must be much more reactive to heat and thus need less heat to get them moving. Hard to capture the colors and sparkle in a photo, these are very cool in person. Maybe I can get a video which will show it off better.
That's hot!!!!
