Picked these up last night, I won them Tuesday morning on ebay, collection only, £9.99 each starting bids, separate auctions. I was the only bidder and the seller is just a 30min drive from me.
When I arrived to collect/pay a lovely young lady answered the door and invited me in, we got chatting about Lava lamps and she seemed genuinely interested.
It turned out that they (husband) had just recently bought the house which was a repossession order, the previous owner had left in quite a hurry and left loads of stuff behind, most of it new/mail order! The bottles and cap being amongst it all.
She told me they haven’t got round to having a proper sort in the attic yet which has more stuff in it, and if they come across the bases and the other cap or any other Mathmos goodies she will contact me.
What a nice young lady.

EGAD, I hope they didn't get trashed!! Hopefully, they just haven't gone through everything yet! Fingers crossed!!!
I'm sure she would have let me know, from what she told me the house was in a bit of a mess when they moved in and I guess the vultures that got there first looted the place so maybe the bases got trashed !
Sounds like a great plan to me, Pete. You definitely need those, and I can't imagine them not being up in that attic "somewhere." Wonder what other lovelies are up there? Oh gosh......be nice if she'd let you have a peek around.
No mention of them Lib, I will contact her when the auction ends and slip it in to the conversation... lol.
Oh shucks, Pete!! That's awful. I wonder if they have given the ole attic another once over and found your bases and the other cap for the above lamps? Did she mention that to you?
Well true to her word the seller has just contacted me.
They have found another rather special Mathmos treasure in their attic. Unfortunately for me its beyond my price range, Its up for auction on ebay but for obvious reasons I can't put up a link, suffice to say its not lava and its unused boxed mint !!!
*sobs* lol
I thought I "liked this" yesterday! EGAD Sorry, Rocket Man.
Thanks guys, I feel sure she will get back to me.
The bottles are on their third run right now.
The seal on the violet/red had blown but no problem to fix, the blue/green started off really lumpy/grainy but gets smoother with each run and has the better flow of the two.
Will post photo's soon.
Great Story. Great Lady. Great Find.
What a wonderful find and a nice lady, Pete! So happy for you, my friend!!!
