Thank you for that info, very interesting! Searching his name brought up an old Ebay listing for a similar lamp made by Realistic named Lightning Fury. That one also appears to have the two nob setup like the White Lightning Model. There are two specific models by this lamps maker that I am dying to find...
Those were, I believe, all Larry Albright's work, VOXul. He made the Goonies props, neon for the spacecraft in Close Encounters, miniature neon for One From The Heart, and sci-fi stuff for Buckaroo Banzai.
I do like the slow creep of the older and larger globes. They are calming almost. I would LOVE to get a hold of the globes seen in Ferris Buellers Day Off. There are two of them flanking Camerons bed. I would also love that house There were some cherry globes in The Goonies too.
I remember these at Spencers, and they're extremely impressive. I have an old Eye of the Storm, the first commercial plasma lamp, and it's impressive in an extremely subtle way. This one is the most impressive in a bright, in-your-face way. Can't ignore it.
Jonas, it does make a statement when on. Like a moth to flame/light it makes you touch it and I have been made aware of what it is capable of. Never got the jolts but you can feel the spiders start to walk on your arm when you caress it, haha!
The only downside to this particular unit is that, if you brush something grounded while touching the glass, the result is exceptionally painful!
