I believe these were also the first lamps ever made in which the globe screws into the base, which, at least for a while, was a pretty common feature on imported knock-offs. The latest lamps I've seen using screw-in globes were those tall, pointy (and extremely top-heavy) "No Boundaries"(?) lava & glitter from Wal-Mart.
A little trip down memory lane right here! These gas pumps, along with the plain model at far right, were imported in the late 90s by Lyon Design. These were some of, if not THE, first imported Taiwanese or Chinese lava lamps to hit the US market. They were frequently cloudy within weeks of starting use. I saw them in red, blue, green and possibly purple, all with "clear" liquid; the transparent plastic tip on the plain models matched the lava color. Back then, they were junk. Now... well, they're still junk, but they're RARE junk!
