What are your thoughts about painting/altering vintage lamps? I think this lamp would look much nicer in a hammered black paint (left), but right now it's silver and a little dinged up. Thoughts?

I was going to bid on that lamp with the holes in it but when I looked at the pictures it appeared that the bottle was half empty. Not sure if it was supposed to be like that or not. I'm not too keen on purchasing broken stuff.
You are correct! Thanks Erin!
No. The sticker reads FIAM italy settimo torinese
I know one just sold on Ebay a day or two ago in Black with the circles cut out of the metal to see the Glitter.
I am not sure?
Is this a Mille Luci brand lamp?
I like it better in Black, the Glitter pops more.
The finish is very very hard to see unless up close. Paint would surely cover it up. Hard to describe, but the pattern is kinda stamped into the metal. If the metal was in better shape, I'd keep it. But, this lamp has great flow (glitter didn't stall after 4 hours of running) and it's a nice solid piece. :)
Paint it but make sure its a good job otherwise not only will it not look grate but could lower its value.
I understand why your asking the question about vintage lamps as if you alter them there value can be decreased but if they need restoration and its a good job its only going to increase its value.
