My latest CL find

They both say Fantasia on the bottom on an oval silver sticker, but I have no idea how you really tell. $30 for the small one and $50 for the big one. The small one has a blue oval sticker on the bottom that says " issue 89-229". The big one has another silver oval that says "sunburt MOD 4000". I hope that is a fair price... Input anyone?

I still love my first one (it's a monofilament fiber optic) but these are like the Ritz vs. motel 6... But yeah, I learned pretty quickly that these leave NASTY splinters behind. Tiny little razor sharp pieces of glass that go straight into your bare feet at just the wrong angle! They are both on my dresser now so hopefully that keeps the shedding to a minimum. Still... Worth a little pain. :)

You know what's sad? I remember these from being a kid, but until the post was made a few weeks back about buying a base without the spray I really didn't NEED one. The modern cheap one I had was fine because I didn't know better! But that thread got my curiosity up and the hunt began! I sense another collection just got started today. :). Hmmmmm.... Where to keep them.....

Comment by Jonas Clark-Elliott on October 13, 2012 at 9:02pm: The reason people don't handle these is that the fibers are glass. The lamps will occasionally shed fibers, and they need to be picked up quickly and carefully; they make for awful splinters since they're practically invisible!

The Sunburst sold new for well over $100 in the 90s (that was the black version). $50 is a steal! The one of the left is the "Trophy" model, and was one of the first six designs made. $30 is again a huge bargain. These look incredible in a dark room. No modern fiber optic lamp can do what these can. "The lamp of a thousand lights" indeed.

Might give the little one to my mom for Christmas. Although.. I remember my parents or grandparents had one of these and no body would EVER let me touch it! Maybe I'll put them both out next family get together and not let THEM touch!! Thanks for the input guys. Always nice to know when you got a deal. :)
