I know that I've made candle holders out of soldered glass, and those get pretty warm, but I must admit that I don't know how it would hold up under 25-40 watts. Perhaps I should make 1, test it, and then report my findings...just to be sure? My gut instinct is to trust it, though...I think it would be fine.

My grandmother had that, too. I didn't handle her care directly, but I have some idea...

Would the solder not heat up and start to bend/fall apart?

My boss and my neighbor have both dealt with dementia/Alzheimer's closely and I know from their stories how horrible it is for the caretaker. I hope your friends and your partner can comfort you when you need it.

I'd be glad to send...well, as many as you want. I'm keeping 2, and the other 6 are up for grabs. You can have 1, or 2, or however many you want.

Oh and I won't lie...it's hard to do what I do. It makes me really appreciate you saying that, though!

And sorry to dou...er, triple post, but Jonas, if you want me to make you a color wheel that you can keep in your lamp, just let me know. It should be relatively simple to make! I'll probably make disks out of 8 colors, cut them all into 8 pieces, and solder them together...which means I'll be making 8 of them. :p Does anybody else want one? It looks like what will fit in this lamp will fit in a mathmos jet, and perhaps a few other lamps?

I take care of my dad, who has senile dementia. :( It's kinda a full-time job. But every other weekend is mine to be at the house, so I can get a lot done then, hopefully. :)

And then there are samples! Many distributors have a sample policy, where potential buyers can sample their wares. I already have one to sample, but shhhhhh...don't tell them that. :p

Oh wow, cool idea! In fact, I could even make that color wheel out of stained glass! :) I make stained glass as a hobby. I thought about making some simple colored glass circles, and may well yet, but I love that idea!

Also, I've been digging and digging, and I found who made this lamp originally. The bottom says "KAI HAN ltd. inc.", but I think that a company called Kenart made it, and the model is KL-239.

But their website is down. I think other places in China still distribute these (the earlier model, with the nicer [IMO] base), but again, I would have to order 1,000 at once, and I can't afford that...as much as I'd love to go into business modding these. But, I MIGHT have a lead on a way to get them in smaller batches...but at a higher cost, and a later model with a different base.

I won't give up, though...

Congrats on finding an uncommon lamp! Very pretty. I also highly recommend this idea: Go to a craft store and find a disk of glass a bit smaller than the bottle. These are often sold for painting faux stained glass. Also get some of the stained glass paints. Then paint the glass with bands of color, and stick it under the bottle with a loop of clear tape for a (very short) look at how colors go.

One of the most colorful lamps, the Fantasia Products glitter, had a multicolor disk which had eight colors set up like pie wedges: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, turquoise. Makes for sparkles of every imaginable color.
