Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

These are "Spire" series 300 lamps by Starbright Lighting Co. of Chicago. On the left is the (relatively) common gold-tone model, with emerald liquid, the 2nd rarest of the jewel tones besides sapphire. On the right, my latest find: an even rarer black-finished model, though with common gold liquid. These came in eight colors: first ruby, emerald, gold and sapphire, then sky blue, pink, chartreuse and violet. The liquid has eaten the silver off the glitter, a common problem with vintage models, and the green one is missing some liquid. No other Starbright models are known; they're as mysterious as Heat Tapes, Inc.

They're flanking a lovely Jefferson "Suspense" electric mystery clock. The odd item at bottom center is a fire lighter made from Seattle driftwood: just drag a match across the embedded rock.

Very, very nice, The Blob! They must have done the very first advertising lamps, long before Lava's Camel lamps! I believe the colored tip may have been a later addition.

Oh yes, I have one of these rare lamps as well, only mine must have been made as a promotional display for Old Forester bourbon.

Please take note of the tag(s). All is not what it seems. Some OGers may remember the original post about the green one.
