Vintage Italian Glitter Lamp - Should I paint it?

What are your thoughts about painting/altering vintage lamps? I think this lamp would look much nicer in a hammered black paint (left), but right now it's silver and a little dinged up. Thoughts?

Comment by Jonas Clark-Elliott on June 27, 2012 at 11:49pm: I'd say if you can paint very lightly so the wrinkle finish is still very clear (thicker paint will fill up the tiny grooves), either black, red, or orange.
